Perspectives

The ramp leads you down into the bath which is open to the outdoors. The views and sounds of the garden beyond make the bathing experience a relaxing and enjoyable one. The surface of the bath as well as the grid on the ceiling are made of Japanese cypress. The walls are painted a warm grey so as not to distract from the colors of the gardens outside. The back wall is a water feature made of acid stained concrete and wooden louvers encased in a steel frame. The artificial waterfall shows the water as it falls through the open space, runs over the smooth concrete and trickles over the louvers.

Final Model

I chose to put a grid of wooden beams across the ceiling plane. It makes the space feel more enclosed, even though it is open to the outdoors. Also, the grid pattern creates interesting shadows on the walls as the sun moves throughout the day.

Final SketchUp Model

Originally I wanted to have separate ramps for entering and exiting the bath, one on each side. However, after realizing how much space the ramps take up, I decided to just have one.
