Here are some perspectives of the schematic design that our group came up with.  First is an exterior view of the building (Mira Eng-Goetz), then a view of the coffee shop/community space (Monique Farley) and finally a view of open air courtyard.

Schematic Plan

We decided to place as many units as possible along the perimeter of the building so that we could include windows and natural light in these units.  In the center of the building we suggested two open air courtyards that would allow the adjacent units to have windows and a view of the outdoors as well.  The entrance is kept the same as the original entrance and leads you into a lobby and reception area and then down to the community center and coffee shop. The hallways are all ten feet wide with skylights along the length of them so that they dont feel too enclosed.

Color Inspiration

The colors that I chose for the dining room were inspired by the area rug that I specified. I found the area rug with a delicate floral pattern to juxtapose the straight clean lines of the table and the rest of the room, and I also wanted to add some detail and pattern. All of the colors in the room came straight from the rug, from the wall paint to the flooring, and even the concrete columns.
